So kiss goodbye to the life that you once knew Yes it's gone forever and there's little you can do You left your footprints on a footpath that had already been marked So now consign it to the wasteland that they sometimes call 'The Past' I've been on every train It's all the same Once you've been on it And it does nothing for your heart or soul if you were truly honest Every backstreet bar and stolen car tried, tested then laid to waste You must look forward and not backward and do so with certain haste Every stolen kiss and fumble must remain a memory They say time is on your side yet it remains an enemy I was at the gates of Holloway when I begged them 'Take me down!' They said 'Get lost my son, you are no fun, for you're already damned!' But you were bang out of order When you said I was not important To anybody but myself....
2.
And it came to me in a dream Exactly what the past did mean And what you meant By the things you said And now there's sense in what I've seen Tears on the telephone You said it was because You were on your own But now I know the truth As I always will It was a good job I was naive Or I might have killed Buckle up and shackle down Knuckles up and tackled down You may have stained my heart But you will not stain the memory....
3.
Young, inspired and dashing On the dancefloor You were really something You made my dream come true Although it WAS just a dream And while others interact on the screen We went to alcoves neither of us had been And you made my dream come true Although it WAS just a dream Let me try your patience In many situations How do you treat your patients? Tell me is it just a dream? Won't you try my patience? Won't you try my patience? And don't let reality end the dream... Don't let reality end the dream So how did you know my name? Nobody ever asks me what's my name So how did you know my name? Did I make anybody else seem so tame? I bet you thought I'd answered your prayers When I came bounding down the stairs But did you not stop to ask why You felt no gun against your thigh? Doctor, doctor Do you think that they saw us? Doctor, doctor I'm a terminal illness Don't let reality end the dream... Don't let reality end the dream.

Faceless in the literal sense Ensuring commuters feel tense His face is charred His lips are red His voice recalls a nameless dread He has no ears He lacks a nose It's Bank Station - the place he goes Burnt alive at twenty five For not paying villains on time He's begging.... He's begging.... Features gone And flaking skin So how much change can you give him? His face is proper horror show But still emits a daunting glow When he's begging.... Oh he's begging....
5.
Dragged out longer than is Humanly impossible Dragged out slower than is Humanly implausible It's simply inhumane It's virtually insane It IS that inhumane That it borders on insane The only thing You ever did Was drain me of The will to live Yes You know You've gone to the dogs In the winter I sat In a cafe with a book And within a few months My whole world, it shook You appeared at dawn And disappeared by noon And, yes, it IS such a travesty That you left so soon Some things get dragged out Some things get still born Some people get drained And others' hearts, they get torn Yes You know You've gone to the dogs

Now you're living in a basement Down in Westbourne Park Where the prospects for the future Are both grim and stark There was once a time when people Said "hello" in the street But now it's time for you to bow your head And admit defeat Fallen star How no one wonders who you are Fallen star No one remembers who you are I think you graced my television Maybe five years ago And now you're back inside the Job Centre Completely unknown And if I saw you in the street Maybe I would say "hello" But such a greeting when you're beaten Could well come as a blow Fallen star... Fallen star...

Recounting the tale of the sixteen miles I cycled In order to lay my hands on some dusty vinyl A second hand record shop where you'd spend all day long I left with a 12" but found my bicycle gone In the olden days, things were much better (Except they weren't really, were they?) Given the choice of the "then" and the "now" Deep down, we would all choose today I loved you then and I love you now (you silly old fool) A coffee in the cafe by the side of the road As meeting places went, it was the only to go If you wanted to recover from a night of gloom You would go and have a fry-up in that greasy spoon If you ever visit my hometown Make sure your belongings are nailed down....

Tears for the palace That surely beg belief Are they tears of sadness Or simply of relief? Tears by the palace Certainly beg belief You can't have known the dead So what justifies your grief? Tears by the tunnel Reverberate no end But those you deem responsible Will surely kill again An antiquated fairytale That surely met its end And those you deem responsible Are bound to kill again

The hand of fate Disrupts the pace Of the life you try to live We had no clue We never knew The mess we found ourselves in I saw your smile It took a while But it was you I wanted badly To make you mine Disrupt my life I would have done so gladly Still I could see It was not to be The myth in my mind remained a dream There was always some kind of madness Running through me As we sat in the park We let time pass Not knowing not all of us would be living The hand of fate Disrupts the pace And remains so unforgiving Still I could see It was not to be The myth in my mind remained a dream There was always some kind of madness Running through me There was always some kind of madness Running through me

The story starts A steep, unstable road Leading to hideaways Unknown To all but us To all but us The rain had come down, it had littered the ground With still-green leaves and all things in between The soil was mush and the grass cast in dew and I sat on a bench trying to talk to you The bark from the branches covered the footpath That led to wherever we envisaged it might The day had been long and before we were gone We were playing old records well into the night We could not see the future; Had no regard for the past For in these days of yore we lived each like the last But those days have passed Yes those days have passed Oh, I'm sorry to say Those days are in the past. The story ends A steep, unstable road Leading to hideaways Now known To all but us To all but us

about

Liquorice River London, UK

Liquorice River take you on an aural journey fuelled by bitter nostalgia and sardonic sentimentality, stopping off along the way at junctions of 60's psychedelia, glam, dub, folk, indiepop, krautrock and interludes of both a cinematic and electronic nature. Witty poems of longing and lust narrate a sonic film about life itself. ... more
